UPDATE: This place is no longer the gem it used to be. The quality and rice to fish ratio has reached the point of pathetic. So sad because it used to be so good. :(

the best way to get good and cheap food?  go to happy hour.  the hubby and i are always on the look out for good happy hours and boy were we happy to have found japonessa last year.  it’s the HH place we hit the most in seattle.  while i like to eat mostly fresh sushi, the hubby really likes the deep fried kind.  this place fits both of our needs.  living in seattle, we have some amazing sushi joints, so i wouldn’t say this is the best sushi in town, but it’s definitely the most bang for the buck.  not only are the quality mostly fresh (i’ve experienced the rare mishap here and there before), the quantity is also very generous.  the restaurant is clean (and there are so many cheap places that aren’t) and decorated kind of frou-frou-loungey-posh (meh).  the best part about their happy hour?  it last almost the whole day!  it is scheduled from 11:30am~8:00pm on weekdays, 12:00pm~8:00pm on weekends, 10:00pm~11:00pm on sunday~thursday, and 10:00pm~1:00am friday~saturday.  basically there’s only 2 hours out of the day that HH is not on.  ok, that’s seriously ridiculous, but i’ll take it!

miso soup . $1

tempura brie cheese with raspberry dip . $5

spicy crunch roll: spicy tuna roll tempura'd, drizzled with sweet chili aioli . $6

super bad boy roll: eel, snow crab mix, avocado, cream cheese, tempura'd, drizzled with sweet chili aioli . $6

spicy tuna roll . $4

chirashi: assorted sashimi over seasoned rice . $12

Ahhhhhhhh!! SUSHI! The brie tempura with raspberry sounds kind of amazing, I just discovered that brie isn’t as bad as I thought it would be so now I’m trying to take in as much as possible haha.

Totally agree! We have a sushi place near us and during “happy hour” sushi is 1/2 price…I always feel like I am shopping…everything is such a steal (and so yummy!)

Cat {brideblu} ( March 30, 2011 at 9:54 am )

i know! since it’s so cheap, i always end up ordering more than i can handle. i don’t know why, it’s not like it’s free or anything… but every time… i’m greedy!

    yvonne ( March 30, 2011 at 11:28 am )

Mmm…looks delish

Amy S. ( March 30, 2011 at 9:23 am )
